Routine blood tests are no longer available at the practice. Due to the changes in the way services are being commissioned, we do not get any funding for phlebotomy. The PCT has commissioned phlebotomy services at 2 local practices, as well as at the Whittington hospital. More and more patients are ringing up to request a test, but none are done without doctor or nurse authorisation. The test has to be interpreted in context with the clinical situation and as such has to originate from a health professional.
We often get samples posted through the letter box with no known indication. If a sample has not been requested by a doctor or nurse, then unfortunately it will be disposed of.
Results
Please speak to the reception staff from 10:30 any weekday afternoon for test results. The average wait times for a result are:
- Xrays 1-2 weeks
- Blood tests 5-7 days
- Smear 4 weeks
Obviously we would contact you if anything urgent came in but not for the majority of results. Therefore, please always phone the practice for your results following any investigation. Do not assume they are normal if you do not hear from us.
