Important update on data processing changes for practices using EMIS Web
From 10 June 2019 EMIS Web started migrating practice patient data storage to Amazon Web Services (AWS).
What does it mean?
A data processor acting on our behalf, EMIS Health, is changing certain technical aspects of the way in which it delivers services to us and as part of this transition it will be moving the data which it hosts on our behalf from its own data centre to a third party data centre, which is owned and operated by Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Delivery of the services is subject to the terms of the GP Systems of Choice Framework (GPSOC) which is managed by NHS Digital on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health.
As detailed above, the data (which includes special category data (i.e. health data) which is collected via our clinical IT system and which forms the patient’s medical record will be stored in a third party data centre (which will act on the instructions of EMIS Health, who in turn will act in accordance with instructions received from (or on behalf of) ourselves as the relevant controller pursuant to our call off contract under the GPSOC framework or as otherwise documented).
The Muswell Hill Practice.
Summer is finally upon us, and I’m sure a number of you will be looking forward to having some much deserved time off to enjoy the seasonal weather. We recognise that the summer months could see an increase in the use of health services, particularly A&E and so we’re reminding and encouraging practices to continue promoting alternative services which would be more appropriate for less urgent needs, such as the GP Hubs.
The CCG has created a brand new service video to help promote the GP Hubs which gives the hub locations and explains the booking process for patients. We would really appreciate if you could ensure the GP Hubs video is displayed on your practice website with accompanying GP hub information.
The GP Hubs can help reduce the number of unnecessary A&E attendances and also provide more flexibility for patients, by offering both evening and weekend appointments. Please continue to offer these appointments to your patients, especially if they require an earlier appointment than your practice can provide. Thanks for your support.
